Krismas di Klang

Home for the holidays.... back in Klang where we grew up. Eat , drink and be merry. Decided to make a personalized christmas tree for Ma since she had quite a few kids attending the party. Baubles with their names and stars for Zach since that's his favourite shape since he was tiny.

The pine cones were so fun to do. Roll a brown piece of fondant into an oval shape then hold the tip of a small round nozzle at an angle to make semicircle indentations to create the look of a pine cone. Then dust it with metalic gold lustre dust. There you go... one down 19 to go!

Sivam rolling the red berries (thanks darling, there were hundreds to roll!! excellent effort for a 1st timer). And seasoned cakeART elf Anita doing the more intricate stuff like rolling branches, assembling the leaves and berries for me.

Zach loves grandma and Tata's house! and it was extra fun this year with best friend Ashley....

SWW

Be my Valentine...whatever you want to say... speak from  the heart!

Thank you heaps for a fun photoshoot! SWW has an amazing team of super creative, efficient, accomodating and warm people. Can we do it again?!  :)

It's a snowy family affair

Make the head separate from the torso and let them dry completely (overnight preferably) to avoid slumping or drooping of body parts which is always very unflattering :)

I used regular sized cupcakes for this design and topped it with layers of fondant for that snow covered look. An icy pond for the penguins to frolick in...use piping gel coloured with a tinge of blue. Scribble the words by scratching the underlying fondant with a cocktail stick then use a thin brush covered in aquamarine food coloring to finish off the effect.

Snowy family with the cheeky little one wrapped up nicely with ear muffs and Mr. Penguin covered in snowflakes.

It's Christmas time...

Christmas starts at the end of November in our household... , even earlier in Orchard I see (*rolls eyes*). You see we cannot get enough of it! The colours, the smells, the music, the food, the wine, the gatherings, the joy....and the spirit of Chirstmas just uplifts everything.... I had this plain green wreath which I decorated with pale green berries from last year but decided to go to the Christmas shop in Taka to spruce it up a little. The owner , a spunky chinese gentleman gave me some wonderful ideas to perk it up with little red berries.

Thanks Audrey and Vijian for the beautiful advent candle which went well with my cute nativity set.

I love my christmas tree...traditional , just the way I like it!

And a miniature one for my guests...used super mini vanilla cupcakes. Checkout the watermelon cut into christmas tree shapes...Trust Ma to have the patience to do that! It's the easiest and neatest way (hardly any spillage) to eat watermelons!

Tatler's 30th Anniversary

30 illustrious years..... So the ever thoughtful and generous Iro wanted to surprise the fabulous Tatler team with something they can feast their eyes and stomachs on :) What better way than a cupcake bouquet....*that rhymed..smirk*

She wanted to make sure their logo and magazine was featured on the cake. So I thought a framed cover of the 30th anniversary issue (as seen in the offices of the best publishing houses) would be apt and will add that touch of glamour and style. And since 30 years is normally represented by pearls...I put the "T" on a pearlised centrepiece in the middle of a ravishing red ribbon.

Deciding on the colours of the flowers, type of buds and leaves is never easy to imagine....

...until it all comes together in a stunning bouquet... Happy Anniversary Tatler and congratulations to the team :)

Golden Jubilee

Imagine dedicating 50 years of your life to your calling. It's more than a lifetime for some of us so it is hard to envision. But once you meet Sr Marianna, you will understand where she gets her will from. Her vibrance and gusto is felt in her hand shake. Her experience is not limited to Singapore but also the to a common place where I have fond memories .... Ireland. So it was no wonder her niece Olivia wanted to commemorate her Golden Jubilee with a special cake design.

She serves with an open heart at Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood and hence the depiction in fondant. Also a no fuss atiitude, uncluttered thinking helps with her other passion for finance. So the cake was kept "neat" with clean lines :)

FMDM logo frames in fondant and surrounded by lillies. Congratulations Sr Marianna!

Cupcakes for everyone!

Colourful buttons for Jimmy...

A cupcake bouquet for the best boss...all smiles, open minded, big heart but gets the job done without a drop of sweat! Thank you indeed Evan...you will be missed!

and more cupcakes for the rest of the deserving staff...

Beautiful Bali!

Celebrating a good friend's 40th is a good excuse to go to Bali, but then again who needs an excuse to go to Bali! Just looking at the colours in this picture brings me happiness. Walking along the road, peeking into shops we liked and stopping for a drink and a bite along the way made this holiday a one to remember...

Unique design ideas brought textures, colour and depth to Potato Head... So my roving eyes had a lot more to look at other than hot bods lazying on the lawn and by the pool!

Now where else would you find a tree trunk in the middle of your breakfast counter? Absolutely gorgeous... one with nature. Sitting in the morning with a cup of coffee and chilling with Sivam was just blissful...

We can't leave home without roti canai....! I've lived in Malaysia for almost all my life and now in Singapore but I had had to go to Bali for roti canai + condensed milk! I must say, it took 3 young Bali boys and 20minutes to prepare it in this tiny alley shop, with cool Japanaese surf dudes by our side but it was crunchy on the outside with just the right bite inside...well done boys!

Mades Warung.... charming in the afternoon. But felt a bit touristy especially the surrounding shops... beautiful Batik dresses but way over priced I felt.

Naik moto! the best way to travel in Bali...managed to do so much, see so much in so little time because  of our 2 wheeler.

Sienna turns 1

This cake was made ages ago but I just haven't had the time to upload the pictures.
Dad's Spanish and mum's Irish...what a combo...what a beauty! Sienna's mum wanted a cake inspired by her 1st birthday dress.

Adorable colourful hearts...

So I made a copy together with one of her favourite teddy bears.

Matador teddy for her Spanish roots...

Leprechaun teddy for her Irish roots...

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!

Moist double chocolate cupcakes for a good friend of ours who was celebrating Hari Raya.

Yeehaw! A Taste of Texas in Singapore

Anita threw an awesome Texan party for Zach. She put so much effort into it, as she always does :) It was a triple celebration for Zach's 3rd birthday, their 5th wedding anniversary and a welcome home party for Jimmy who had returned from Houston, Tx just a few weeks before that.

She lovingly hand painted
wagon wheels, chuck wagon signs and a "wanted" sign for Zach, while I made this fondant figurine. When Zach saw it he said, "Aunty Serena, can I eat Zachary?"
*pinch cheeks cuteness*

I loved creating the cowboy boots & bandana and subtly incorporated their anniversary to the back of his cake.

The dessert spread..... Anita made the best brownie cupcakes with white chocolate chip. Crunchy, with just the right bite, then chewy, moist and sweet.... yummmmmmmm!

The door gifts for the kids... they look good on the outside and the inside as well!

The door gifts for the adults....

Red heart shaped balloons creating a beautiful ambience amongst the greenery. Looking good you guys... Happy 5th! Ketchup or your life? Anita went around with her ketchup gun for anyone who needed it with their BBQ...
